AML Compliance & goAML in the UAE
goAML registration, AML/CFT policies and risk assessments — meeting your Anti-Money Laundering obligations under UAE law and avoiding heavy penalties.
01The challenge
The UAE enforces strict Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorist Financing rules. Many businesses — especially DNFBPs such as accountants, auditors, real-estate agents and dealers in precious metals and stones — must register on goAML and run a full AML programme, or face significant fines.
02What UAE law requires
AML/CFT obligations are set by Federal Decree-Law No. 20 of 2018, supervised by the Ministry of Economy for DNFBPs:
- Register your business on the goAML portal.
- Appoint a Compliance Officer and adopt a risk-based AML/CFT programme.
- Perform customer due diligence (KYC) and keep the required records.
- Monitor for and report suspicious transactions (STR/SAR) through goAML. Non-registration carries substantial penalties.
Obligations per Federal Decree-Law No. 20 of 2018 and the UAE Ministry of Economy (moec.gov.ae).
