UAE VAT Calculator — work out your VAT payable

VAT in the UAE is charged at a standard rate of 5%. To find what you owe the Federal Tax Authority (FTA), you subtract the VAT on your purchases (input VAT) from the VAT on your sales (output VAT).

VAT Payable = Output VAT (5% of sales) − Input VAT (5% of purchases)

If the result is positive, that's your VAT payable to the FTA for the period. If it's negative, you're in a refundable position and can reclaim the difference. Enter your figures for an instant estimate.

Output VAT (5% of sales)AED 0.00
Input VAT (5% of purchases)AED 0.00
VAT Payable to FTAAED 0.00

This is an estimate based on the standard 5% VAT rate. Some supplies are zero-rated or exempt, and rules vary by business — contact us for your exact VAT position.

Frequently asked

UAE tax & compliance, answered.

Straight answers to the questions UAE business owners ask us most.

Who needs to register for UAE Corporate Tax?
Almost every business in the UAE — mainland and free zone alike — must register for Corporate Tax with the Federal Tax Authority (FTA), even if profits fall below the taxable threshold. Corporate Tax applies to financial years starting on or after 1 June 2023. We handle your registration end to end.
What is the UAE Corporate Tax rate?
0% on taxable profits up to AED 375,000, and 9% on profits above that. A Qualifying Free Zone Person may keep a 0% rate on qualifying income if all conditions are met. We calculate, file, and make sure you claim every relief you're entitled to.
When does my business need to register for VAT?
VAT registration is mandatory once taxable turnover exceeds AED 375,000 in a 12-month period, and voluntary from AED 187,500. The standard VAT rate is 5%. We manage registration and every return that follows.
How often are VAT returns filed?
Most businesses file quarterly, though the FTA assigns some monthly periods. Returns and payment are generally due within 28 days of the end of each tax period. We track every deadline for you, so nothing is ever late.
What are the penalties for late filing?
The FTA imposes administrative penalties for late registration, late filing, late payment, and incorrect records — and they add up fast. Our proactive deadline monitoring is built to keep you penalty-free.
Do free zone companies pay Corporate Tax?
Free zone companies must still register and file. A Qualifying Free Zone Person can benefit from 0% Corporate Tax on qualifying income, but only if strict conditions are met. We assess your eligibility and keep you compliant.
How long must I keep accounting records?
UAE law requires businesses to keep accounting records and supporting documents for several years (typically 5–7, depending on the tax). We maintain clean, audit-ready books so your records are always in order.
Why choose Hudson & Nova over a large firm?
You get senior, founder-led attention, a dedicated point of contact, monthly on-site visits, and a deliberately focused client base — UAE expertise paired with an efficient support team. Compliance handled, peace of mind included.
Do I register for VAT and Corporate Tax separately?
Yes — VAT and Corporate Tax are separate registrations with the FTA, each with its own thresholds and rules. We handle both so nothing is missed.
What is Small Business Relief?
Eligible businesses with revenue up to AED 3 million can elect to be treated as having no taxable income for a tax period, available up to 31 December 2026. We check your eligibility and apply it.
What is a TRN?
Your Tax Registration Number — issued by the FTA when you register for VAT or Corporate Tax. It must appear on your tax invoices and official tax documents.
Does my company need an audit?
It depends on your jurisdiction. Most UAE free zones and many mainland companies require audited financial statements each year. We prepare your records and liaise with your external auditor.
What is goAML — and do I need to register?
goAML is the UAE's Anti-Money Laundering portal. DNFBPs — including accountants, auditors, real-estate agents and precious-metals dealers — must register and run an AML/CFT programme, or face fines. We handle registration and compliance.
